MY PLAN FOR GETTING OUT THE VOTE IN THIS PRECINCT

WHAT IS A PRECINCT CHAIR?

A Precinct Chair represents a voting precinct in our county. Each of the three active parties have precinct chairs. Ideally, there is one for each of the 95 voting precincts in McLennan County.

The Precinct Chair is the liaison between the voters and the Party and candidates. A Precinct Chair will get to know the voters in the precinct, share voting information, answer questions. They are the “go-to” people when the voters need answers and when the Party or candidates need volunteers. They are also like a Board of Directors for the Party. They make financial decisions and sometimes choose candidates when there is a vacancy on the ballot. This has happened a few times in recent years.

A SUCCESSFUL PRECINCT CHAIR

A successful Precinct Chair contacts and interacts with voters. She uses methods such as social media, phone calls, text messages, and in-person visits to get to know the voters. She is organized. Often, she will get the work done through block captains. The ability to train and organize the work of others is important. She has a working knowledge of the various levels of government. She is familiar with the convention process. She knows and is known by the elected officials and candidates. Her goal is to give the voters the tools they need to make good decisions or influence elections or policy decisions. She will be able to communicate her own informed opinions on the issues.
