MY RECOMMENDATIONS
I won’t recommend for all races. These are the races in which I have a strong opinion. I won't say anything negative about any candidate. I prefer to vote for candidates I support rather than against someone I don't support.
UNITED STATES SENATOR – Wesley Hunt. I was excited when he entered the race. I wasn’t excited about voting for John Cornyn (yet) again and I’m ambivalent about Ken Paxton. Hunt is of my generation. He’s a veteran. He is an amazing speaker and very persuasive. When I heard him speak, I was impressed by the fact that he and his team have become experts about energy production.
GOVERNOR – Greg Abbott. No candidate is perfect. Abbott has done things that I haven't approved of, but he's done many things that I have approved of. He has a proven track record of success that his opponents lack.
LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR – Dan Patrick. This is the most powerful office in Texas. No single person has more say over what legislation get passed that the Lt. Governor. Patrick has a proven track record of passing conservative legislation.
ATTORNEY GENERAL – Joan Huffman. All of the candidates in this race have something to offer. Sen. Huffman has broad experience. She has carried important legislation. She has chaired committees that did great work. Importantly, she has experience as a prosecutor.
COMPTROLLER OF PUBLIC ACCOUNTS – Christi Craddick or Kelly Hancock. Hancock was very well respected as a Senator and has been serving in this role since he was appointed when Hegar stepped down. Craddick has a stellar history of public service including a three terms on the Railroad Commission. She keeps the needs of Texans first on her mind and makes good, reasonable decisions in every role she has held.
COMMISSIONER OF AGRICULTURE – Sid Miller. I think he’s done a great job. Some like Nate Sheets and I believe he could do the job, but I wasn’t very impressed by him.
RAILROAD COMMISSIONER - Jim Wright has done a good job. I’m also impressed with Hawk Dunlap since he works in the oil and gas industry.
STATE SENATOR DISTRICT 22 – Jon Gimble. He is dedicated to public service. He is local and has a personal stake in the success of our local community.
DISTRICT JUDGE 170th DISTRICT COURT – Barrett Thomas! This is a candidate that I believe in 100%. He’s the real deal. He has taken it as his life’s work to treat children and families better in family court. Family court cases are different. The parties in the cases are joined for life. The adversarial system and desire to win in court hurts children. Barrett Thomas wants to find a better way. This is not to say that his opponent is a bad choice. She is very smart and would be a wonderful judge. She doesn’t have family law experience. It’s important that we have at least one judge who is experienced in family law since it makes up 45% of all cases in our court system.
DISTRICT CLERK – Connley Litton. He has worked in the office for six years as a Deputy District Clerk. I’ve gotten to know him, and he is smart, dedicated, and he truly loves this work. There have been several huge improvements that have made things like jury selection smoother, less expensive, and easier for the participants. I’ve talked to many who have reported for jury duty who have said what a pain-free experience it is now. His opponent is very competent and dedicated to customer service. My choice comes down to experience and who will better serve in this role.
JUSTICE OF THE PEACE, PRECINCT 1, PLACE 2 – Gary “Bull” Durham or Aubrey Robertson are both good choices. Bull Durham was appointed by the County Commissioners to fulfill the unexpired term of Pete Peterson who retired. Aubrey Robertson is an attorney. That can be a benefit in this job. Will Hutson has dropped out. We can't make a wrong choice in this race.
PRECINCT CHAIR, PRECINCT 31 – Lisa F. Dickison. I understand the political systems and know how to get information out to constituents. I know and am known by many local elected officials, judges, and party leaders. I don’t know all the answers, but I can find the answers.
